Introducing 2 Oceans – Hurricane Prevention with SSPS

Imagine a slowly swirling mass of thunderstorms dancing above tropical waters. It’s full of potential, bubbling with latent power. It could exhaust itself and peter out into nothing, receding back into the water and air like it never existed in the first place. Or it could grow.

And grow.

And grow.

Those swirling thunderstorms and harmless gusts of wind turn into a whirling dervish of billowing air and rushing water. What was once upon a time a tropical depression has graduated into a full-fledged hurricane, and it’s rushing toward land. As coastal cities brace for impact, the hurricane races forward, causing the sea level to rise and sending a storm surge ahead to flood low-lying areas and destroy everything in its path.

Boats and boulders are tossed around like rag dolls. People clamor to gather up their belongings and flee. Flying debris and stormy weather nips at their heels.

Hurricanes have cause hundreds of billions of dollars in damage and thousands of deaths. They ravage coastal communities, leaving wreckage in their wake. It can take years, even decades, to rebuild. People lose their homes, their businesses, and their lives.

2 Oceans was born of our desire to prevent the devastating impact of hurricanes and generate clean energy in the process.

It’s a one-two punch of innovation and visionary design that could change how we live and thrive for generations to come.

Looking to the Future

Though there is still analysis, modeling, testing and demoing to be done, the SPS technology is incredibly promising. It’s our hope that, one day, interested parties can support the project and play an integral role when our spacecrafts ultimately launch. The idea that organizations, universities and aerospace agencies from around the world could collaborate on a concept with the power to safeguard our shores and our people is a vision that inspires hope and excitement and encourages us to keep forging ahead.

Hurricane damage hits close to home — sometimes quite literally. If we can help change the course of hurricane season, save lives, protect our neighborhoods and develop a new clean energy source while we’re at it, don’t we owe it to the world to try?

Stay tuned, because there is so much more to come.
